Westwood Lutheran Church Crests 1.2 Million Meal Packaging Mark!

Westwood-Food-Packing-2015Over 400 volunteers recently gathered at Westwood Lutheran Church in St. Louis Park, Minnesota to package another 100,000 Rice and Soy meals for distribution through Westwood’s sister church in Tanzania.   They have been hosting an annual packaging for 10 years and this event crested the 1.2 million meals.

“These meals go to the Arusha Road Lutheran Church in Dodoma, Tanzania.” said Westwood’s event coordinator Shannen Nettleton. “The meals are then distributed to households with children who have been orphaned by AIDS.  Many of our congregation who package these meals here in the U.S. have actually Westwood-Food-Packing-2015-2gone over to Dodoma and have been part of the distribution of these same meals.  Having a direct tie to the families who desperately need these meals has created a lasting impression on the Westwood congregation as we know we are positively impacting a community we have pledged to serve.”

Matt Hamilton, VP of Operations for Outreach, Inc. said, “Outreach has been partnering with Westwood for over ten years now and it is exciting to work with such great hosts like Dwight Peterson and Shannen Nettleton.  These meal packaging events connect their members to each other as well as to members of a church several thousands of miles away. The energy at Westwood is unique because they know the names Westwood-Food-Packing-2015-3of the people who need these meals. It gives us a great deal of satisfaction to know we can help a church here in the U.S. connect in the same manner to a church anywhere in the world.”
