Corpus Christi Parish Pack Meals for Kilimanjaro Mission of Hope

Over 150 volunteers from the community gathered at the Queen of Apostles Social Hall to package 30,0000 Outreach, Inc. meals destined for Moshi, Tanzania. Churches in the parish included Queen of Apostles, Holy Family and Our Lady of Carter Lake. These meals will be included with Outreach meals packaged with the Des Moines Diocese and will be sent to the Kilimanjaro Mission of Hope and Outreach in Tanzania.
Deacon Monty Montagne, Chairman of the Social Concerns Committee, who helped organize this event said:
“What a wonderful weekend we had helping to feed the hungry of Tanzania, through Outreach. We had over 150 volunteers, ranging in age from 5 years old to their 80’s. We had individuals, families, confirmation candidates, and drug court participants helping to package food. A wonderful blend of people coming together to fulfill one of the Corporal Works of Mercy; Feed the Hungry.
Everyone worked hard and had a wonderful time. Based on the over whelming response, we are looking forward to doing it again in the future and our goal will be to package 40,000 meals.”
Jennifer Jirak-Brungardt, another organizer said, “What a great event we had! We can’t wait to do it bigger and better next year.”
Outreach Event Coordinator Leon Sporrer said, “These events have a special feel to them because several churches in the area are doing their part to package meals for the Kilimanjaro Mission of Hope in Moshi. I’ve had the pleasure of working with the churches that have these events and there is a general feeling that they are all part of something much bigger than their individual churches.”
