Ask anyone over the age of 65 and they will tell you, “I’ve never seen anything like it. Gas prices, food prices, why it’s almost impossible for a man to support his family!” This seems to be the trend here in America.
Now more than ever Americans are in need of assistance with basic necessities such as food. There has been a dramatic increase in hunger right here in the United States over the past three years. Government programs that focus on food assistance have seen a major increase. 18.6 million children receive food stamp benefits and nearly 51.4% of Americans will live in poverty at some point in their lives before reaching age 65. Outreach realizes that hunger lies within our borders as well as outside of them, and we want to make a positive impact on these startling statistics.
The good news is that Outreach has supplied nearly 4 million meals worth of ingredients and finished meal packages to local food banks and pantries, with more meal packaging events being scheduled every day. Now is the time to realize hunger can affect anyone, not just a tiny village in a foreign country somewhere across the ocean, but our very own co-workers, friends, and neighbors.
